Slava Moskalenko – Agile Coach, trainer, change agent, speaker and evangelist of Agile Culture. He has been working in IT for over 13 years.

In his article on how the decision to work in Agile appeared, Slava admits that at the very beginning of the Agile-boom in Ukraine he was skeptical about flexible approaches. He was convinced to believe in Scrum by replacing a product that his favorite team had been developing for 2 years: it turned out to be uncompetitive. Competitors in that situation were given an advantage not by the roduct, but by the organization of work processes. A few further experiments convinced Slava to continue working on Scrum.

Having worked as a programmer for many years, in 2012 he began to rule the Agile transformation of Luxoft clients, including UBS, Deutsche Bank, Hotwire. Since 2015, Slava has continued developing as a professional Scrum Trainer (PST). On this position, Slava provided high-quality advice on Agile to clients such as Lufthansa, Nordea, Credit Suisse and many others.

Agile Framework for Digital Transformation

Product Lead of a cybersecurity startup, used to work for a number of product (Carerix, Jabra, Geo-Pak, BMTP) and outsourcing (EPAM, Ciklum) companies, as a product manager, designer, and as engineer. Processes optimization is his job and hobby at once, and engineering experience helps him to find ways to fix the User Journey not only for users, but for developers of the product as well. This resulted in him being also a UX and DesignOps consultant, helping companies to tailor solutions that perfectly fit their business needs.

How do the tasks appear in the product backlog? Who and how creates them? Is it hard to ideate?

Design Thinking, User Research, Ideation, Product Backlog building and prioritising it is not as scary as it might look. And with the right approach, it may take not so much time.

In my speech I will share:

- My experience with Atomic Research: a methodology that allows you to apply quantitative methods to qualitative research.
- How to quickly generate features, filter and prioritise them by conducting effective workshops with stakeholders and developers.
- Time-saving tools and techniques: from free SaaS to human vices.

The #1 Strategy to Prevent or Fix Zombie Scrum

"Scrum is HUGE! It’s massively adopted by organizations. That’s of course awesome! Except for the fact that many organizations and teams think they’re doing Scrum, while they’re not. Sure, they’ve got all the Scrum roles, events, and artifacts in place. But there’s no working software at the end of the Sprint. There’s no drive to improve. No involvement of customers and users during development. This might look like Scrum from the surface. But it isn’t. This is Zombie Scrum, and we need to stop it!

During the presentation, you’ll learn more about the causes and symptoms of Zombie Scrum. Even more important, you’ll discover the #1 strategy to prevent or fix it! "

Hello, my name is Sebastian Żebrowski and together with other enthusiasts, I organize Liberating Structures workshops and meetups. Besides Liberating Structures I also promote topics of scaling Scrum, especially LeSS. I’ve decided to apply for a Candidate LeSS Trainer program. Professionally I’m a Scrum Master, a trainer, and a developer. Scrum and scaling Scrum are one thing, I’m also interested in topics related to the effective work of groups (from the team to the entire organization level), leadership, self-help and the concepts behind the stoic philosophy. “If Scrum is not fun, then we are doing something wrong”.

Liberating Structures - a social technology fit for our times

"Body - Ever heard that communication problems are the topmost issue that various companies face? Technological progress made it possible to do many incredible things, though it did not really chang our culture of communication.
Fortunately, we have some social technologies that make it possible to truly include and unleash everyone into shaping their work, life and environment.

Enter Liberating Structures, a modern paradigm for communication!

We invite you to take part in an interactive workshop during ScrumDayUkraine, where we will give a brief intro on what exactly are Liberating Structures and then hop right in into practicing different techniques!

The precise and yet ambiguous issue at hand that we will discuss during the workshop is:

""How to truly include and engage everyone in your own environment into shaping their work and life?"""

We do that by organizing many physical and virtual events, in most cases international, where people can practice various Liberating Structures techniques and exchange their views on many topics related to work, life and cultural differences. We’ve organized more than 30 events up to this point. I do hold an MA in Computational Linguistics, which became my hobby that plays well with communication and facilitation, especially with the use of various Liberating Structures workshop techniques. When it comes to professional life I’m a professional trainer (Liberating Structures, DevOps, ITIL4, Agile Service Management), certified Scrum Master, experienced facilitator and an entrepreneurs trying to play the startup game. I do hold many certifications, among others PSM2, PSUX, PALE, ITIL4 CDS & DPI, DevOps SRE & DTE & CASM & CAPO & Leader. Also, I’ve created the first Liberating Structures immersion workshop training course in Poland.

I have participated in delivery of the different hybrid and agile projects and programs on different roles: developer, tech lead, scrum master, product owner and coach. The most complex role is coach, as you have to see the project overall ( how planned, organized, sold out) and at the same time your skills, knowledge should be the skills and ideas of the project leaders. There are a lot of work what should be hidden to external people — like support tooling setup or requirements management workflow, release models and coaching team how to communicate with stakeholders etc.

Teams are immutable, which means that every time someone joins or leaves, you have a new team, not the changed team. But what are the most common ways of forming the teams? In most of the cases it’s a managerial selection. The truth is people work best when they have a choice over what they work on and who they work with. Self-selection might be one of the best facilitation techniques to help whether you are forming new team or reorganising the old one. In this talk Nataliya, experienced Engineering Manager and Agile Coach, will share and retrospect her experience of conducting self-selection workshop as a part of the department reorganisation process.

Objective-Subjective Prioritisation

Why is it so hard to prioritise? Negotiating priorities is all too common and expensive, where a group of diverse profiles with different agendas try to agree on what's most important, investing a lot of time and energy and making no-one happy. What's the problem? Each person prioritises subjectively, in their own context and following their own beliefs and interests. People decide what's most important based on their own arguments. When is something too expensive or too long?“ Those are undefined concepts and subjective for each person. This talk expects to take advantage of that subjectivity and turn it into collective objectivity.

We have been experiencing a radical change in terms of market dynamics and economic models for the last few decades. In fact, we are shifting from a world where giant companies are kings to a world where clients are kings, in other words, from a production-oriented world to a new service-based world. This radical and great change also affects the company structures and ways of doing business. Today, companies are trying to pull away from the old concept of the huge, pyramid organization dominated by hierarchy and bureaucracy which was the norm in the 20th century. However, this is not an easy transformation. So much so that, when we compare the old business model and organizational structure to the agile approach, it is almost impossible to find something in common between the two. Therefore, this transformation process is a challenging and error-prone journey. In order not to repeat the same mistakes, let's discuss together some common blockers that we encounter and try to come up with some practical solution proposals.

"Imagine that your company won a bid and was selected, as a technology partner for a large investment bank with its core business in the UK and headquarters in the US. Your company is full of talented, well-educated, full-stack developers that are versatile in various technologies and functional domains.

A client-company wants your company to take on development of a large product (on-line trading platform) that is meant to generate millions of dollars in revenue, quarterly. But there are some additional conditions....

A client-company had a lot of experience, dealing with far-off-shore outsourcing firms, promising golden mountains under a blue sky, but then delivering poor quality software, while overrunning expected costs and providing a low transparency of their process. Along the way, a client-company was hurt, more than once, relying on big consultancies with complex, so-called ""agile"" scaling frameworks.

A client-company wants to try something different....
This time around, a client company wants to have full transparency into the process and have delivery of potentially shippable product increment (PSPI) every sprint, as well as have a close interaction with their technology partners. A client-company was able to identify a real Product Owner who will spearhead this effort and who wants to use Large-Scale Scrum (LeSS).
Does your company understand Scrum down cold? Does your company understand Large Scale Scrum (LeSS)?
Option 3 on this graphic:
https://less.works/img/framework/who-is-the-product-owner-in-different-types-of-development.pdf

Does it have very seasoned Scrum Masters on staff, who can coach teams during LeSS product development effort?
Can you make this first partnership with a new client into a success?"

I’m an experienced and pragmatic agile practitioner. I take teams beyond “getting agile” to “embracing agile” via training, mentoring, coaching and facilitation. As I guide them towards the deliberate and joyful pursuit of high performance, my weapons are well-asked questions, insightful retrospectives, and an ability to withstand awkward silences. I’m ready to share ideas, collaborate, argue, and above all promote discourse that moves agile values and principles forward in the company, communities and the world. I have run the spectrum of software delivery roles over my 17 professional years, from early days as a developer, project manager and CTO that lead me to my agile journey starting about seven years ago. I lead an agile transformation for different teams and small companies. I specialize in empathetic, human leadership built on lean and agile principles. I am originally from Kyrgyzstan, living in Belarus, and my spare time raising three sons, leading Agile communities in the homeland and helping with the development of local ones here in Minsk.

Scrum at Scale - the natural evolution of Scrum

The key to a successful agile transformation is to accept the reality and start with what you know taking small steps that will have great impact. If we take a look through the agile window of history, we will see a lot of cases of agile transformations of all kind of organizations that either failed or succeeded.

There are many reasons why an agile transformation could lead to a total organisational disorder and eventually to a fatal failure wasting money, time, opportunities and of course the trust towards the decision making process.

Let’s navigate through the Scrum@Scale guide and via some case studies understand the key points of an agile transformation.

Since 2009, Valentyn is passionate about creating effective development teams and organisations. Through trial and error he has arrived at a very obvious success recepie for building a great team - you have to give a damn. Caring is such a simple concept, yet this crucial bit is often overlooked. Even more so in an outsourcing environment. Should you get attached to a colleague or a project, given you will part ways in six month's time? Valentyn believes that it's imperative to create a culture where "giving a damn" is championed. This concept is the cornerstone of any agile transformation.

Together, we’ll explore successfull examples of such cultures, analyze cases where things went haywire and share tips on how to build offshore teams that bring added value to their customer by “giving a damn”. We’ll learn about selecting and fostering the team, manage your client while the team learns to care and why you should give a damn about all this.

Sergey started his career as a software developer, then switched to business analysis in waterfall projects and Agile product development teams, finally switching to Agile consulting and building one of the most successful Agile consulting practices across Eastern European software development vendors. Now Sergey leads Agile transformation of the largest non-state owned bank in Ukraine – Raiffeisen Bank Aval, as a Chief Transformation Officer directly supervising Agile coaches and Scrum Masters as well as traditional PMO organization and Lean/BPM teams. Combining efforts with IT, marketing, HR and other strategic functions into a cross-functional transformational effort, Sergey drives the change of how Raiffeisen Bank Aval does product discovery, delivers software and non-IT changes and merges different functional divisions into customer-focused vehicles responsible for end-to-end value streams.

Agile Transformation Path of Raiffeisen Bank Aval

Scrum and various Agile scaling frameworks focus on importance of Product Owner role, cross-functional "two-pizza" teams and technical excellence, however, each organization goes its own way to put these principles to life.

In this talk, we will focus on how the largest private bank in Ukraine (Raiffeisen Bank Aval) uses different marketing and product management tools to get from feature-centric to customer experience-centric product development and put product discovery process as a parallel stream to product delivery. We will also talk openly about IT, business and organizational structure challenges we are facing during Agile scaling.

You will learn how splitting the whole change-the-business portfolio into value streams and product/service teams helps in enabling entrepreneurial mindset and moving from project-focused to product-focused development.

You will also learn about the transformation process, or what does it take to define product owner role properly and change their mindset from subject matter expert to entrepreneur stance.

Improving digital products with Service Design Blueprint
Customer Journey Map is undoubtedly a great approach to understand and improve all the touchpoints with your customer and drive more engagement. With the Service Design Blueprint, we get a step further and connect the dots between what is on the front stage and visible for the customer, and what is behind the scenes - processes, systems, actors and policies. There are multiple benefits of blueprinting your service such as failure analysis, identifying bottlenecks, clarifying interactions and reducing the silos. Also, it can help you to rethink the future of your business by changing mindset from product-based to service-based, building new organisational structures and capabilities. In this talk, Nikolay will give you an introduction to Service Design blueprinting, explain the difference with Customer Journey mapping and highlight both tactical and strategic benefits of using the approach.

"Engagement is (the) key"
Scrum drives us toward increasing the value we deliver. Although ‘value’ in itself is hard to quantify, we can measure and improve how we effectively deliver value. “Team Engagement” is the most ignored aspect of ‘value’, yet one where huge gains can be made to increase the ability to deliver value.

Agile Transformation - the Next Level From IT Agility to Business Agility
Business agility or organization agility is one of the important trends in today’s business world.
Consequently, Agile practices used so far in fields of IT and SW development, are now utilized across
the whole organization.
Today’s market competition generates frequent business changes to which companies have to adapt
quickly. In the VUCA (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity) world, many organizations
may find themselves out of business because “the fast eats the slow” (not the “big eats the small”).
It’s therefore imperative that organizations devise new strategies.
These strategies are not about robustness but rather about the ability to adapt quickly to the
changing market environment and be able to compete based on changing market’s needs.
This presentation will present a short and focused view on one of the most important initiatives
organizations should take in order to survive in this market. We will discuss What Business Agility is
and what it is not, Why it is so important and How to overcome the challenge of organizational silos
and hierarchy and be able to “Organize Around Value”.
In the past year, I had the opportunity to work with several companies and support them in this
agility journey. I’ll provide examples from two such cases: one is a large semiconductor
manufacturing company, the other a startup that grew fast to a mid-size company (more than 100
people). Each one wished to improve agility in order to be able to act faster in the marketplace.”.
We will discuss the challenges, the barriers and the way those organization moved forward to
improve agility so that the audience of this session will be able to rethink the way agility can work
for them in their organization.
